Dr Emma McFarlane is a Technical Adviser at the National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE) in Manchester, UK, with over 15 years of experience in guideline surveillance and development. Her recent focus has been pioneering living guideline methods, where she led the development and implementation of innovative approaches that are shaping the future of evidence-based healthcare.

Emma’s research spans a wide spectrum, including the creation of a prioritisation framework for living guidelines and an in-depth exploration of the lifespan of living recommendations. Her work is driven by a passion for continuous improvement and practical impact in healthcare decision-making.

She currently chairs the Guideline International Network (GIN) Accelerated Guidelines Working Group and contributes to global best practices as a Steering Group member for both the Collaboration, Updating, and Guidelines in Medical Education initiatives.
