Markus Follmann was dermatologist who held master’s degrees in public health and Epidemiology. He was head of the department Evidence based Medicine and Guidelines at the German Cancer Society and coordinated the German Guideline Program in Oncology (GGPO).
In this position he supported the guideline groups and taught evidence-based medicine and guideline methodology. He had a strong interest in bringing together the world of guideline developers and quality management.
The GGPO has established a process for developing and upgrading guideline-based performance measures. Markus was an active member of the Guidelines International Network (Performance Measures Working Group), the GRADE Working Group and the German Network for Evidence based medicine.
He was vice-chair of methodology of the Guideline Development Group of the European Commission Initiative of Breast Cancer (ECIBC) and member of the European Joint Action ‘Innovative Partnership for Action Against Cancer’ (iPAAC).
