G-I-N 2013 update

The team, which is organising the San Francisco conference, is getting really excited as we see the progress that has been
made since we last gave you an update.


San Francisco - Golden Gate Bridge


Registration opened in January and the delegates are increasing each day, which is great news. It looks like a number of the early bookers are taking the opportunity to stay for an extra few days in San Francisco and enjoy what the city has to offer. If you book extra nights via the conference website you will get the specially negotiated room rate for conference participants. If you are bringing a partner with you, you will also get the opportunity when registering to purchase a ticket for the drinks reception on the opening evening or the conference dinner on Tuesday 20th August. All partners will be very welcome to join in the fun.

In between planning the timetable, our partners at Kaiser Permanente have also taken the time to seek out a number of handpicked tours that you can book in advance and enjoy while you are there.

We now have commitments from all but one plenary speakers, as well as a very special keynote speaker, who will be announced soon, so the programme is shaping up very well. This is all thanks to our Scientific Committee, which is chaired this year by Dr Paul Shekelle. Details will be announced on our conference website very soon, as well as tweets, which you can follow @GINConference.

By the time you read this, the abstract submission period will be well and truly over, after having a 2 week extension to the deadline. We already have a high number of submissions, so our reviewers are going to be busy once the submission period ends. If you have submitted an abstract, you will be notified by 15th April, allowing you time to still achieve Early Bird registration, which ends on 19th April.

We already have several sponsors signed up, with BMJ being our headline sponsor. Both BMJ and Dr Evidence have also committed to hosting lunches on the first two days, so watch the website for the details. Delegates will be able to sign up for a lunch when registering or by logging back in to your conference account and registering there.

Various pre-conference courses and workshops are currently being scheduled, covering areas such as GRADE, guideline development and implementation. All courses are planned for Sunday 18th August, prior to the drinks reception. Details will be announced shortly and again there will be the ability to pre-book your space via the registration site.
