G-I-N 2020 - Toronto

Save the date - 29 September - 2 October 2020

COVID-19 Update

On 30 January 2020 the World Health Organisation declared the outbreak of coronavirus (COVID-19) as a Public Health Emergency of International Concern (PHEIC). Many of our members and stakeholders will be working tirelessly in the fight against the spread of this virus - our thoughts are with you.

Most Governments have now applied stringent measures, including border closures and travel restrictions to protect the population – this is changing daily with countries and communities all at different stages of the outbreak facing many difficulties.

We want to advise that at this stage no decision has been made to cancel the 2020 Conference in Toronto; the local hosts and trustees of G-I-N are monitoring the situation daily and reviewing the evidence and guidance presented by the experts. However, the safety and wellbeing of all our delegates is paramount and will be our primary concern. We also appreciate that an early decision is required for your planning purposes. Decisions taken to date include:

- the date of the conference will not be pushed back to a later date in 2020

- the abstract submission date will not be extended

The G-I-N Board, along with our local host, McMaster University has made the commitment to make and announce a final decision by 12th May 2020.

The situation we find ourselves in right now is unprecedented; we will continue to monitor and take advice from the experts and assure you that we will communicate any potential changes to you as quickly as possible in order to ensure the least disruption.

Stay safe and healthy

Elaine Harrow
