Jane Cowl (MSc, BSc Hons, PGCE) is a senior public involvement adviser at the National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE) in the UK. She leads the team that supports the involvement of patients and the public in NICE guideline activities. Jane is involved in sharing best practice internationally and is chair of the GIN Public working group. She led the 2021 update to the GIN Public Toolkit. The toolkit assembles international experiences and best practice examples of successful patient and public involvement. Prior to NICE, Jane‘s roles in the health sector included CEO of a community health council and running health advocacy services and research projects. She also led on consumer issues in the team set up by a UK government to help improve maternity services. Other roles include an earlier career in teaching, and volunteering as a community mediator.
